L’Estartit – Catalonia (Spain)

       LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION

In the region of the Baix Empordà and inside the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí we find l’Estartit, a coastal town which lives facing the sea (1). Although it still conserves notable activity in the fishing, agricultural and livestock industries, tourism is the principal economic motor of the locality (2), which is situated little over a km away from the Medas Islands, noted for the richness of their underwater flora and fauna (3).

       A SCUBA DIVING PARADISE

Classified as the best marine reserve of the Western Mediterranean, the ecosystem of the Medas Islands with varying depths along the length of their coasts, allow one to carry out all types of dives and discover a unique seafloor of coral, stars, caves and the remains of shipwrecks from over the centuries.

 

       NATURAL HERITAGE

The Montgrí Natural Park, which includes the Medas Islands and the Baix Ter, covers a total of 8,192 hectares, between its marine and terrestrial surface. With a great quantity of marine and terrestrial habitats a range of sports and entertainment activities can be undertaken.

    CUISINE

The weekly market (Thursdays), in the streets of Santa Anna, the maritime promenade and avinguda de Grècia (Greece Avenue), puts local produce; fruits, vegetables, fish, meats and cured meats, within everyone’s reach. An ample range of restaurants offering creative home cooking for lovers of good cuisine is also on offer.
