LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
South-East of the plain of Olot, 50 km from Girona and 150 from Barcelona –both cities are accessible by road– is the municipality of Santa Pau (1), in the region of la Garrotxa. Located bang in the middle of the Volcanic Area of la Garrotxa, and very near volcanoes, beech woods and cascades (2), it has a surface area of nearly 50 km2 and occupies more than 80% of the Natural Park (3).

WHAT TO DO
The natural spaces adjacent to Santa Pau, together with an active social and cultural life, mean that boredom is a concept that does not enter into the municipality’s dictionary.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Days like La Fesolada (the festival of beans, one of the biggest mass celebrations of Catalonia), the Town Festival, the Live Manger or the Night of the Remença (with performances and activities in the medieval enclosure), are unmissable. The majority of these take place in the Firal dels bous, a space historically dedicated to the locality’s fairs and markets.

CUISINE
The cuisine of Santa Pau, like that of all the Garrotxa, belongs to the so called Volcanic Cuisine. But if there is one star ingredient that stands out above the rest, it is the fesol (bean), which has acquired its own Certificate of Origin (“the Santa Pau fesol”). This product has a fair and various social days dedicated to it, such as the “fesolades”.
